********** WildBlue NRTC Optimizer Ver 2005-08-01 Readme *********** The WildBlue "Optimizer" does the following tasks to Optimize the performance of your computer using the WildBlue network. These optimizations are specific to Internet Explorer and Firefox. All are reversible if you decide you don't want them at a later date. See the end of the file for instructions to optimize Netscape, Mozilla, and Safari. 1. It adds a "WildBlue" entry into the Programs Menu. This WildBlue entry allows you to execute the "ipconfig" program which may be used by WildBlue Customer Service to help solve WildBlue related problems. 2. For Internet Explorer it sets the following items to optimize performance. A. MaxConnectionsPerServer to 10. B. Enables http 1.1. C. Enables http 1.1 through proxies. D. Sets the Internet Explorer Local Area (LAN) Settings to "Use automatically detect settings". 3. For Mozilla Firefox it sets defaults in the Firefox install directory and the current user's Firefox profile directory to optimize performance: A. Max connections per server to 10. B. Max persistent connections per server to 4. C. Pipelining to true. D. Proxy pipelining to true. E. Network proxy type to 4, "Auto-detect proxy settings for this network". This Optimizer only optimizes Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. Below are instructions for optimizing other browsers. -------Optimizing Netscape 7.0+ and Mozilla 1.7.3-------- 1. Select "Edit" from the top menu and choose "Preferences". 2. Select the "Advanced" side menu tab and then "Proxies". 3. Select "Automatic proxy configuration URL:". 4. Enter http://wpad.wildblue.com/accelerated_pac_base.pac. 5. Select the "Http Networking" menu tab. 6. Select the "Use HTTP 1.1", "Enable keep-alive" and "Enable Pipelining" for both "Direct Connection Options" and "Proxy Connection Options". 7. Click "Ok" to complete the setup. --------------Optimizing Apple Safari---------------- 1. Select "Safari" on the top menu and "Preferences". 2. Click on the "Advanced" tab and select "Proxies: Change Settings...". 3. The OS X System Preferences menu will appear. 4. Under "Select a proxy server to configure:", scroll down to the bottom. 5. Select "Automatic Proxy Configuration". 6. Now enter the following in the "Proxy Configuration File - URL" box: "http://wpad.wildblue.com/accelerated_pac_base.pac" 7. Click on "Apply Now". 8. Click on the red X in the window to close the network configuration screen. 9. Now you can close the system preferences menu. 10.Close and restart Safari.
